Three different approaches to the practice of Contact Improvisation.
We will work together to weave a mix of technical classes, jams, discussions, improvisational scores and investigative practice to create a four day playful festival exploring contact improvisation from many angles.
We will share basic skills that we are still fascinated about to explore in the universe of communication through touch and keeping the common weight moving. Also advanced contacters will find deeper insights into the supposedly known. Concerning to the needs of the group and energy we will offer every day a one hour long activity to connect as a goup. The focus will be less on technical learning but more on "being in the moment". There will be different frames to dance with the whole group, including jams, practice and group scores. |
In these workshops we will use practices and concepts drawn from the The Feldenkrais Method© as a resource for solo and contact improvisations. We will explore how 'Awareness through Movement' lessons, taught through verbal instruction, and hands-on partner work based on 'Functional Integration' practices can inform our compositional choices, and serve as embodied scores for emerging improvisations.
Barnaby O'Rorke Treeglove Horn, performer and musician (cello, piano, vocals) will provide music for the classes and jams. He is an experienced improvisor working with dance for many years. www.barnabytree.com.
Thomas Kampe,
Trained as a visual artist and in dance at the Laban Centre and at Middlesex University in London. He has worked internationally in theatre for more than twenty-five years, as choreographer, director, designer and performer. Thomas' research interests are in the developing of a contemporary, anatomically informed perspective on dance technique training, as well as in applying choreographic knowledge and methodologies to a wider theatrical context. He is a practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method©, which forms a foundation for most of his practical teaching.
Mirva Mäkinen
Dancer, teacher and choreographer, graduated (MA) from the Dance Department of the Theatre Academy of Finland in 2000. Teacher and lecturer for dance at the Kallio highschool of Performing Arts. Member of the dance company Karttunen Kollektiv and Circo Aereo. She investigates movement, rhythm and different ways of inhabiting the body. A feeling of dancing is created by being able to switch the body from total relaxation to extreme intensity and “tension”. Her ideal is curiosity and presence, which makes every moment true and meaningful.
Joerg Hassman
Joerg got introduced to CI in 1991 and built eventually his profession around it. He deepens his knowledge of this unique dance through labbing, teaching, performing and creating other frameworks for people to share the dance, like the 1st Madrid Contact Festival. Capoeira and BMC are his recent supportive movement systems. This summer he curated lab structures at CI36 in Pennsylvania and earthdance/ Mass in the USA. In spring and autum he is working on two CI based performances with Mirva Mäkinen and Daniel Werner/ Sebastian G. Ferro. |
